Saturday Morning
近所の人を目覚めさせてしまうような曲です。
昇りゆく一日の美しさを讃えるように、思わず大音量でかけたくなる。ブラスの高鳴りと、狂騒的なドラムのエネルギーを聴いていると、身体の内側から力が湧いてくるのです。すると街へ歩き出し、ワイルドな絵画や、まだ誰にも知られていないピカソやボブ・トンプソンの作品に出合いたくなる。憂鬱を吹き飛ばす、そんな一曲だ。
このトラックの中では、実に多くの出来事が同時に起こっています。長く続くベースソロ、暴れまわるようなドラムとパーカッションのソロ。すべてが全速力で突き進んでいく。だから、この曲を聴きながら絵を描いたり、何か別のことをしたりするのは難しい。一度すべての手を止めて、ただ見つめるか、あるいは踊るしかない。

It’s a wake up your neighbors tune. Something you want to play loud to exult to the beauty of a rising day, the energy one feels inside listening to the brass and crazy drums, this makes you want to walk into town, see wild paintings, unknown Picassos or Bob Thompsons, it’s a ‘fight the gloom’ tune. There is so much going on along this track, the long bass solo, the riot like drums and percussion solo, all going full speed, it’s impossible to paint or do something at the same time. One has to stop and watch or dance.

Sunday Night
スタジオで、どんな音楽も心に響かない時間帯があります。たいていは午後の半ば。平板な光のせいかもしれないし、どこかに漂う退屈な気配のせいかもしれません。けれど、夕方が近づき、夜が降りてくるころになると、音楽はまた澄んだ輝きを取り戻す。
一日の制作を終えたあと、ニューヨークのスタジオで夜遅くに「マイ・フェイヴァリット・シングス」を大音量でかけていた記憶があります。遠くには灯りをまとったスカイライン。その向こうで鳴る音楽は、驚くほど力強く、そして澄みきっていた。この曲をもう一度かけるたびに、私はあの夜の空気へと、ふっと連れ戻されるのです。

There are hours when no music sounds good in the studio, usually in the middle of the afternoon. Maybe because of the flat light, an underlying sense of boredom. But when evening comes and night falls , it’s when music starts to sound clear and bright again.
I have memories of playing My Favorite Things loud, late in my NY studio at the end of a painting day, with the illuminated skyline in the distance, and the music sounding so powerful and pure, it’s taking me back to this moment when I play it again.

画家。1959年生まれ。パリ在住。風景、静物、肖像といった古典的主題を、写真を介さない直接観察と一度のセッションによる制作で描き出し、移ろう光やアトリエのモデルが見せる「いま、ここ」の瞬間を捉えている。展覧会『Echoes of Spring, Summer Notes』は、2026年6月4日より東京『イセタン・ザ・スペース』にて開催。
