Saturday Morning
フランスのプロデューサー・ミュージシャン、ルイス・オフマンが日本のDJ Chidaに捧げて作曲した楽曲です。ルイスは私の息子なのでその背景もよく知っています。私たちは日頃から、お互いが気に入りそうな音楽を交換し合っています。
彼の制作スタイルは、スタジオで制作する画家に似ていて「探求すること」に重きが置かれています。また、身の回りの環境からも強い影響を受けています。『Seoul Mixtape』は、ソウルに長期滞在していた際に作曲・録音されました。
この曲を聴くと、東京やニューヨークで制作や絵を描いていた自分自身の旅の記憶がよみがえります。ルイスの音楽を聴くと、いつも自分の絵に向かうためのエネルギーが湧いてくるのです。
アルバム『Seoul Mixtape』収録。
This is a tune Lewis composed in hommage to Japanese DJ Chida. I know this because he is my son, and we often exchange music we think the other would like. The way he works is similar to a painter in his studio, it is about searching. He is also inspired by the direct environment, Seoul Mixtape was composed and recorded during a long stay in the city.
When I listen to it it reminds me of my own trips in Tokyo and New York creating and painting in these cities. Listening to Lewis music always brings me energy for my own paintings.

数十年前、ジャイルス・ピーターソンのラジオ番組でロニー・リストン・スミスを知って以来、おそらく長年にわたって最も聴き続けてきた音楽家です。
絵を描くという行為は、ゆっくりとしたものであり、孤独なものでもあります。そんな中で、心を落ち着かせ、必要な集中力と忍耐を取り戻してくれるのは、音楽だけ。彼の音の、ゆったりと漂うような流れとリバーブに、どれほど多くの自分の絵が救われてきたことでしょう。
一日のあいだにさまざまな音楽を聴いたあと、頭をリセットしたいとき、私はよくロニー・リストン・スミスの曲をかけます。静まり返ったスタジオの中で、絵を仕上げるためのひととき。あるいは夜更けへと向かう、遅い時間の入り口。

Since I discovered Lonnie Liston Smith in a Gilles Peterson radio show decades ago, this is probably the musician I listened to the most through the years. Painting is slow and solitarily and only music can calm you down, bring back the necessary focus and patience. How many of my paintings were saved by the slow floating flow and reverb of his sound. I often play a Lonnie Liston Smith tune when I’ve listened to a lot of different music during the day, and I need to reset my mind in the quietness of the studio to finish a painting or late in the evening when getting into the night.
